20th March: the International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world every year. When days of mourning are observed, are days celebrating heroes of war or a day marking a leader’s death anniversary, there ought to be a Happy day too, the world is sad enough as it is. This day was founded by Jayme Aliens, a UN adviser when she argued in the United Nations that ‘a pursuit of happiness’ is, in fact, one of the most basic human rights.
Since 2012, when this day was founded, many celebrities and notable figures have played a role in bringing about happiness to all those they can, especially on this day. The most brilliant effort was made by Pharell Williams when he made a 24-hour music video ‘Happy’ to celebrate this day. While there should not be a single day specified as the ‘happy day,’ this day symbolizes the need to be happy with whatever you have, all those you have, and even in times like these to celebrate the little things that make us happy.
