About Ha Long Bay:

Geography: The bay meets Ha Long city of the Quang Ninh Province of Vietnam (consequently named after it). It has approximately 120 kilometers length touching the coastline of Yen Hung and Van Don Districts and covers an area of 1553 square kilometers. The bay consists of around 2000 islets.

Climate: The climate here is similar to other islands, the summers are quite hot and humid and winters; dry and cold. Yearly average temperature ranges from 15 degrees to 25 degrees.

Landscape: Millions of years have helped the Ha Long Bay to get its unbelievable natural scenic beauty. Its signature elements are a large amount of distant limestone and karst peaks. They appear to be little islets that are wild and untouched by human presence. The scenes created by rich green rainforests and unique limestone formations submerged in emerald water grabs people under a magic spell.

The molding, reshaping and dissolving process of rocks during the specific environmental conditions of Ha Long bay resulted in the formation of this karst landscape within the bay. The main reason for this chemical and geological formation is the uplifting of a specific type of terrain consisting of dissolving and molding mineral rocks (most famous is limestone and sandstone) and their erosion by the help of extreme weathering which includes rainfall and exposure to sunlight or heat.

Like some other natural wonders of the world, these beautiful karst formations have taken almost 20 million years to become what they are today. Over this time period, these limestone pillar-like structures have yielded some breath taking views of natural arches, bridges, and caves. The caves generated during this geomorphology are also of three different types: remnants of phreatic caves, karst foot caves and marine notch caves. Other than these physical characteristics, the unusual geography and geology of the Ha Long Bay also allow it to be a host to two major ecosystems: The ever-green rainforest and a marine, coastal ecosystem that is home to many different aquatic species.

Because of its fame as one of UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage Site and a being a natural wonder, the Ha Long Bay is an area of high tourism, marine transport, and fishing. The place is lovely and the views are breath- taking. Ha, Long Bay is a recommended place to visit for all the nature lovers.
